Listen to the following passage and write down every word you hear. Altogether the passage will be read to you 4 times. During the first reading, which will be done at normal speed, listen and try to understand the meaning. For the second and third readings, the passage will be read sentence by sentence, or phrase by phrase, with intervals of 15 seconds. The last reading will be done at normal speed again and during this time you should check your work.

Most people feel lonely sometimes, but it usually lasts between a few minutes and a few hours. /This kind of loneliness is not serious. /For some people. loneliness can last for years. / Recently, researchers say there are three different types of loneliness. /
The first kind is temporary. / It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. /The second is called situational loneliness. /It’s a natural result of a particular situation, /such as a family problem, the death of a loved one, or moving to a new place. /Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, /it does not last for more than a year. /The third kind is the most severe. /Chronic loneliness usually lasts more than two years and has no specific reasons. /People who experience habitual loneliness have problems socializing and keeping close to others. / Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their conditions. /
