This paper asks whether the notion of a hero is useful in helping communities. After briefly identifying the origin, evolution, and components of a hero, the paper posits that whar evoled to be called heroic leadership is not desirable because it is antitherical to democracy, unrealistic for a nuclear age, and can encourage walf for salvation.
