1. Compounding is one type of word formation. It combines free morphemes to form new words. The over-whelming majority of English compounds are the combination words from two of the three classes—nouns, verbs and adjectives.

2. If segments appear in the same position but the mutual substitution does not result in change of meaning, they are said to be in free variation. Free variations of pronunciation of the same word usually occur in different dialects, which is quite common in most of the languages in the world.
