A: Can you briefly describe yourself?
B: I came to college a year ago from a small village in the countryside. My school was small but I worked hard and I won some awards. I also helped my parents on their farm. Now I'm majoring in computer science.
A: Why do you want this job?
B: I need to earn the money to help pay for college, and I think it will help me in my major to have a job that provides access to books. I love books, and try to read them as much as I can.
A: When can you start work and what hours do you prefer?
B: Immediately, if possible, but I'd rather only work evenings and weekends. I have a full schedule of classes and try to study several hours per day.
A: What are your career goals?
B: I've always thought I'd most likely be a programmer or a software engineer. But after working for you maybe I'll be a bookseller or a librarian instead.
A: What are your greatest achievements?
B: My greatest achievement is simply to make it to college. No one in my family has ever done that before, so they're very proud of me.
A: What are your main strengths and weaknesses?
B: I'm a very diligent student and a very hard worker, and I'm always eager to learn more. I'm very loyal, but sometimes I work so hard that I may embarrass my classmates or colleagues. My former teacher told me I should learn to relax.
A: What special skills do you have?
B: My English is rapidly improving but I'm not yet completely fluent. I'm quite fond of computers and I can use several different kinds of software.
A: Why should I hire you instead of many other candidates?
B: I may not have the best resume, but I'll work the hardest and I'll be the most eager to improve and learn. You'll never regret hiring me.
A: Do you have any questions about the job?
B: I notice that you have a computer. Do you provide any computer training to your staff?
A: Of course. Do you have anything else to say about yourself?
B: Yes. I brought several copies of my resume for you to read and share with your colleagues. If you can't hire me now, please keep a copy and give the other copies to anyone else you know who needs an eager young worker. Thanks for the interview.

Situation: Work in pairs to practice interviewing for a part-time job working on your campus as a clerk in the library or the bookstore. Take turns so both of you have a chance to be the candidate. Typical answers should be from 30-60 seconds in length.
