Weather In England

　verybody talks about the weather in England， which is not surprising. It changes from minute to minute, so it is always interesting. Someone once said that other countries have a climate, but England just has weather! Tom was amused by all this talk at first, but he gets used to it now.

　　Last week Tom really understood why everyone is so concerned about the weather. You can never be certain what's going to happen. Though it was spring, there was a very heavy snowfall. As usual, no one expected it. The pipes in many houses froze; trains failed to run; cars got stuck; there were many accidents on the roads; lots of people slipped on the icy pavement and got hurt. The weather forecast was very bad. Everyone complained "What terrible weather we have! Haven't seen anything like it!" and so on. And then, suddenly, the sun came out, the snow melted and it was spring again.

英国的天气

　　我们不知道其它行星上是否有生命存在。有些人认为只有像生命细胞一样的简单的生命形式；另一些人认为可能有植物甚至动物；还有一些人想象可能有能与地球人交流的更为复杂的智力生命形式。但这些仅仅是猜测而已。我们并不真正知道其它行星上是否有生命形式存在，即使有，我们也不知道这种生命形式是什么样的。

　　上个星期汤姆明白了为什么在英国人人都关心天气。你永远无法肯定下一分钟会有什么。尽管当时是春天，却下了一场大雪。像往常一样，无人预料到它。许多房屋里的水管都冻住了；火车停运；汽车陷在原地，路上交通事故不断；许多人在人行道上滑倒、受伤。天气预报很糟糕。每个人都抱怨"什么鬼天气！从没见过如此糟糕的天气！…"但突然间太阳出来了，冰雪融化，又是春天了。
