                          LOW-BATTERY ALERT
Whenever the pager is reset, the battery
voltage is monitored. If the battery level is low, a
special alternating high-low alert tone will sound.
If the low-battery alert sounds, replace the mercury
battery or recharge the nickel-cadmium battery. Battery
life remaining after a low-battery alert is approximately
three hours for nickel-cadmium batteries and eight hours
                          for mercury batteries.
                        Battery Life: Battery life will
vary depending upon the system. The following figures
are given as a general indication of expected battery
                          life.

                        Battery Installation or Replacement:

                        1. Locate the battery compartment on
the side (closest to volume-control thumbwheel) as shown
                          in Figure 4(a).
                        2. Slide the ribbed latch down
so that the red indicator is visible.
                        3. Pull open the battery-compartment
door (hinged at the bottom) as shown in Figure 4(b).
                          Remove the old battery.
                        4. Place the positive end of the new
battery into the compartment (see polarity marking on
the housing shown in Figure 4(b)). Push the battery down
until it makes contact with the + battery contact.
                        5. Close the battery-compartment door
and slide the ribbed latch up until the red indicator
                          no longer appears.
                        6. If the battery is an approved rechargeable
nickel-cadmium type, charge the battery in the pager
as described in the Battery Charging paragraph. |
