| 2.2.2 段落结构的调整 在非文学类的汉译英的翻译中，确定主题句是译者必须要考虑的。尤其是汉译英时，注意处理好一些与中心话题有一定距离的句子，同时段落中各句之间注意衔接过渡。 主题句的处理 安排好英语语篇的主题句，可以考虑将汉语语篇中的表示主旨的句子提到段前，以符合英语民族开门见山的思维习惯。安排好主题句的常用做法有， (1) 改写汉语段落首句，使其充当英语段落的主题句； (2) 将汉语段落中的主要信息提前； (3) 根据汉语段落的意义给英语译文的段落增加主题句。例如： (1) 改写汉语段落首句： 在一些如说明和论述的正式文体中，英语浯篇的主题句应该显得比较正式。为了获得这种效果，也可以考虑将汉语语篇的前几句合在一起使得主题句拉长，以负载更多的信息。例如： 例 14 ．回顾过去，我们感到无比自豪和骄傲。改革开放二十年，我们不仅为社会刨造了巨大的物质财富，而且也创造了巨大的精神财富。二十年间，企业累计创利税 17 ． 89 亿元，是改革开放前三十年总和的近二十倍；为国家上缴利税 12 ． 29 亿元，相当于 45 年国家投资总额的 4 倍，连续 5 年被评为国家 500 家经济效益最佳企业， …… Looking back upon our past ， we feel proud of great contributions we made to the society not only on material wealth but also in spiritual civilization in the last twenty years of reformation and opening ． In the past twenty years ． our enterprise has created an accumulated profit and tax of l ， 789 million yuan ， nearly 20 times that of the 30 years before 1979 ， and we have delivered to the state a total profit and tax 1 ， 229 million yuan ， 4 times as much as the total investment of the state in the last 45 years ． Also in the twenty years ， our enterprise has own in succession the honor of one of the top 500 profitable enterprises in China ，．．． 上例原文的第一句话可以译成“ Looking back upon our past ， we feel so proud” ，但从效果上来看，不如译成译文中的长句，因为长句显得更正式一些，更适合如报告这样的正式场合。 在汉译英的过程中，要使主题句显得正式，也可以考虑使用名词等方法来翻译。如： …… 如今，中山大学有约八千的学生，包括本科生、研究生、留学生、外语培训中心的学员，以及夜大学的学生和各种培训班的学生。三干七百名教职工中有一千六百人在执教，教授和副教授有三百二十多名，讲师有八百五十多名，助教和教师有四百二十多名。 ．．． Today the university has an enrollment of some 8 ， 000 students ， including undergraduates ， postgraduates ， overseas students ， trainees at the English Language Centre ． as well as students of the Evening College and various training program ． 0f the staff of some 3 ， 700 people ， about l ， 600 are in teaching positions ， with over 320 professors and associate professors ， more than 850 lecturers and over 420 instructors and assistants. 在本例的翻译中，译者将首句译成 “the university has an enrollment of some 8，000 students ．．． ” ， enrollment 的运用比直接译成 "There are more than 8，000 students in this university” 在风格上更正式一些。 (2) 将汉语段落中的主要信息提前： 在说明文中，英语主题句更多的是在段落的开头，因此汉译英时，可以考虑将主题句提前： 在四川，有一处美妙的去处。它背依岷山主峰雪宝顶，树木苍翠，花香袭人，鸟声婉转，流水潺潺，名胜古迹荟萃。它就是松潘县的黄龙。 One of Sichuan's finest spots is Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) ． which lies in Songpan county just beneath Xuebao ． the main peak of the Minshan Mountain ． Its lush green forests ， filled with fragrant flowers ， bubbling streams and songbirds ． are rich in historical interest as well as natural beauty ． 根据陈宏薇的分析 ( 陈宏薇， p ． 229) ，本例的汉语原文反映了中国人的思维模式，其语篇结构是先描述，后点明这一美妙去处的所在。而英语语篇则习惯开门见山，点明地点，再描述。同时，译文增加了 rich in historical interest as well as natural beauty 把原文的“美妙”一词的内容具体化。 (3) 根据汉语段落的意义给英语译文的段落增加主题句： 很多的汉语段落中，并没有哪一个句子能统领全局，起着类似英语的主题句的作用，凶此，汉译英中，就需要根据段落的意义为英文段落增加主题句。例如： 台湾高阳写的通俗小说《胡雪岩全传》近几年来在内地一版再版。有消息说，早几年，以胡雪岩生平事迹为线索的电视连续剧 “ 八月桂花香 ” ，没有表现出胡雪岩灵活经商的精髓，已落后于商品经济时代潮流了，于是新近有两部众多商家热心投资的电视连续剧正在同时开机拍摄。对此，一位某公司的总经理指出： “ 胡雪岩大行其道，是中国商界的悲哀。 ” |
