省词译法指的是把原文中需要而译文中不需要的单词、词组等在翻译过程中加以省略。这种省略一般是出于译文中语义或修辞、语法或习惯表达法的需要。但省略并不是把原文的某些思想内容删除，而应视以下两种情况而定。

1. 为了译文中语义或修辞方面的需要而省略。删除重复、多余的单词、词组或短语等。
2. 为了译文语法或习惯表达法的需要。汉语重意合（parataxis），英语重形合（hypotaxis），英译汉时，译文中可省略不必要的代词、冠词、介词、连接词等。

　　· When Rontgen put his hand before X-ray, he saw the bones of his hands only.
　　伦琴把手放在X射线前面时，只见到手上的骨头。

　　· The intensity of sound is inversely proportional to the square of the distance measured from the source of the sound.
　　声音的强度与声源距离的平方成反比。

　　· If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
　　冬天来了，春天还会远吗？
