1. 把原文中的一个单词或短语译成句子。其中常常将分词短语、介词短语及名词短语译成单独的一个句子。
　　e.g. He is understandably tired of the boring life.
　　 他厌倦了枯燥的生活，这是可以理解的。
　　e.g. Paper, being lighter than water, can float on it.
　　纸比水轻，所以它能浮在水面。
　　e.g. The United States, a nation of immigrants, has been called a melting pot.
　　美国是一个移民国家，它被叫作"熔炉"。

2. 把原文的一个句子拆开，译成两个或两个以上的句子。
　　e.g. An understanding of the operation of the machine requires familiarity with the principle and structure.
　　要了解机器的操作，就需要熟悉其原理和结构。
　　e.g. The fact that he is given the chance to play such a wide range of characters is proof that directors have confidence in his ability.
　　他获得了扮演戏路相当宽广的角色的机会，这证明了导演们对他的能力充满信心。 　　

3. 把原文中的复合句译成一个单句。
　　e.g. It was necessary that we set out early.
　　我们必须很早出发。
　　e.g. It is possible that she has taken some sleeping pills.
　　她可能服用了一些安眠药。
